I floated the Mighty Mississippi from north Mud Island across the river to the Loosahtchie Bar. The conditions are great right now and I saw alot of wildlife. Most abundant were 2 - 3 ft. carp in the shallows where you can reach down and touch them. Also were the jumping fish about 8-12 inches long that a couple jumped in the boat with me.I returned around the south side of the island floated up to the marina and portaged my canoe back to the car. This trip is short and easy but can be very dangerous crossing the channel. If your not comfortable going at it alone Ghost River provides a guide service.

I floated the Ghost yesterday, alot of people were out paddling the Ghost and Moscow sections. The Ghost is nearly obstruction free allowing for an enjoyable float. The nasty deer flies are no longer a problem, the river level is up and its a great time to enjoy this majestic river again. I spotted racoon, deer, a new beaver lodge and many yellow finches and heron. I also bicycled the 9 mile rural route(yager) from bateman to Lagrange and spotted wild turkey.

I floated the Moscow section today and did quite a bit of trail maintenance. It should be an uninterupted float now requiring only one portage near the end across a 30ft. sand bar. Be advised, clearing the channel means opening a gap in downed logs just wide enough to squeeze a canoe through, everthing else is left untouched requiring good paddling skills to manuver around. I was saddened to see several acres clear cutted right on the rivers edge on the left bank approx. two thirds the way down.

I went with a group the other day from the north ramp at Mud Island to Loosahatchie bar on the Arkansas side then back to the southern end of the island to the cobblestones. This was a fun sunset trip. The river level is lower so the lagoon is quickly draining, soon this will be one very large sand bar great for camping with a spectacular view of the city lights. I floated the Collierville section yesterday. The water is low and the first half near Collierville Arlington Road is full of trash and trees requiring you to portage at least half a dozen times. This section really needs some work to be enjoyable. The second half of this section is much better and probably has more wildlife than any other single section of the river. We saw numerous deer, beaver, hawks and other birds. Hopefully we can organize a maintenance day to improve the conditions on the upper portion of this section.

I went on the Mississippi kayak trip recently with my father and brother, and it was fantastic! The trip was ideally timed at 3 and a half hours, and the sunset on the Mississippi River was breathtaking. We can't believe that we have missed out on this tremendous and easily accessible natural wonder for so long. I definitely plan to make more trips with my two daughters very soon. Thanks Ghost River Rentals for a great guided trip.

I recently ventured the Loosahatchie bar with my girlfriend and family. I had no idea what to expect after the launch from Mud Island. After reaching our destination I was astonished after taking a look at my surroundings. Looking west it seemed as if I was in the wilderness, but when I took a glance in the opposite direction, I saw the beautiful Memphis city skyline. We explored the Loosahatchie bar, and luckily, we made it home safe due to our exceptional guide, Wild Man. This was without a doubt one of the best adventures I have ever embarked on.

I took my 17 cousin down the Bateman Bridge/Feemster bridge section on Sat. 18,2007. River conditions were good, we never had to portage our kayaks and I even came across a turkey vulture and a couple osprey. Only negative of the trip was the deer flies. Which I found I'm allergic to when I started breaking out in hives. I'll do it again but I'll wear a long sleeve shirt!

River conditions are great compared to what was tolerated during the heat of mid-summer. Water levels are up,deer flies are gone and the water is still warm enough to enjoy a swim.I floated the Moscow, Ghost, Mississippi, and Houston Levee to Germantown Rd. sections recently.Due to the recent (cooler) weather conditions they were all great floats. Nows the time to plan a trip the season will be over soon!

Some friends and I floated the Ghost this past Friday and we can't stop talking about it! We all had such a great time, despite turning a boat over, that we're already making plans for our next trip. I wanted to thank you guys for the opportunity to have such a great time; Don was very friendly and very helpful and the snacks at the end of the trip were a cool surprise. I'm sure we'll be making another trip with you guys again soon!
